|Emese Csornai studied architecture at the Technical University of Budapest (2002-2004) and post- audiovisual arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (BA 2009). |

|Emese studied at the Rietveld Academy in Holland. Specifically in the visual art department. She says this wasn’t her original plan but came to be so because of her interest in the lighting conditions of Holland. She describes this as something she had never seen before. During her studies, she consistently gave herself assignments which developed into an endless internship of studying light. She noticed that her way of working went hand in hand with theater and installation art. |

Her interests in fine arts led her to lighting design, which two principles keep informing each other in her work as a practicing lighting designer, engaging in installative and fine arts projects too. |

Csornai finds re-discussing well discussed topics from newer angles can create a rupture in rigid perspectives, and can introduce novelty. |

One of her other interests lay within rapture, she says; “when you keep on discussing a topic repeatedly you create a rapture within that topic. This gives you an opportunity to elaborate further or in different ways and creates a more fundamental level to discuss on.” This became her preferred way of discussing and establishing a conversation. |

She has a strong interest is the ongoing examination of colors and the physiology of their perception. |

This rapture translates within her work. |

Her study in instant composition has driven her to the exploration of dynamic use of spaces. |

Ongoing discourse and study with Ellen Knops and collaboration with Bruno Pocheron helped her work evolve. |

Since 2010 she has been regularly giving workshops for dancers and choreographers on collaborating with multiple media, notably with light, most recently 2015-2019 the workshop series ‘Performing space’ in Berlin. |

Csornai is part of a lighting designer collective formed around Buda, Kortrijk, and participates in the 4 year research project 'Reflecting Light' in the framework of KASK,Gent. |

She works in choreographic, multimedia and music performances, and instant composition pieces, recently with Julia Plawgo, Yvonne Sembene, Ruben Reniers, Anne Juren, Samuel Feldhandler, Leyya Mona Tawil, Renae Schadler, Zwoisy Mears-Clarke, Silvia Bennett, Shannon Cooney, Bruno Pocheron, Laurie Young, Justine A. Chambers, Padmini Chettur and others. |
